About PlayQueens
PlayQueens is a free puzzle game where you place queens on a grid so no two queens can attack each other. Simple rules. Endless ways to outsmart yourself.
The Game
The Queens puzzle is a constraint satisfaction problem with elegant simplicity: place N queens on an NรN grid where each colored block, row, and column contains exactly one queen, and no two queens are adjacent (even diagonally).
What makes it special is the interplay between the colored blocks and the adjacency rule. Each puzzle has a unique solution that can be found through pure logic - no guessing required.
Origins
The Queens puzzle draws inspiration from several sources:
- The N-Queens Problem - A classic computer science puzzle about placing queens on a chessboard
- Sleeping Queens - Miranda Evarts' card game that introduced many to queen-based gameplay
- Thomas Snyder - Puzzle designer who pioneered the colored block variant
- LinkedIn Games - Brought the puzzle to millions of daily players
